Artwork Requirements
The following is supplied as a guide only. Should you have any detailed questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please see our "Print Terms Guide" for definitions of various terms used throughout the site.
1.0 PREPARING YOUR FILE FOR PRINTING
Firstly, when you will be preparing your card file for printing, make sure that all graphics are original images saved at 360 dots per inch (dpi). For example, it is of no use to take an image off the web which is 72 or 96 dpi and convert it to 360 dpi. All you are doing is taking the same low resolution image and reproducing it with all the imperfections at 360 dpi.
1.1 PREFERRED DESIGN PROGRAMS
PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR and PDF FILES.
1.2 DESIGN PROGRAMS NOT MENTIONED ABOVE

If you will be using a design program other than those above, the file should NOT be saved in the proprietary format of your design program. We probably do not have the ability to open the file as we do not keep working copies of all available graphic programs except those listed above. Your file should be saved in a format that will be cross platform compatible.

If your program will allow you to save (or export) your file in TIF, TIFF, JPG, JPEG, BMP, PCX, PSD formats, these formats will be fine. If your file cannot be saved in these formats, email us the format that your program saves your file and we will tell you if your program format can be used.

PHOTOSHOP

Save file in Photoshop up to Version 7.0. Preferred formats are PSD and TIF. Preference is that files should be originally designed and saved in CMYK mode (instead of RGB mode). In any event, final uploaded file version should be saved in CMYK mode.

[Go to Image -> Mode -> CMYK Color -> SAVE]

ILLUSTRATOR

Preferred format is EPS. Supply all the supporting files or embed all the supporting files (instead of linking). Do not use color overprint option -- otherwise this will result in the top layer becoming transparent. Make sure that you save all the fonts as Outlines.

[Go to Edit -> Select All -> Text -> Create Outlines -> SAVE]

CORELDRAW

Up to Version 9. Preferred format is CDR. Make sure that all fonts are saved as Curves (or supply the fonts).

[Go to Edit -> Select -> All Text -> Arrange -> Convert to Curves -> SAVE]

QUARKXPRESS
Our program preference is PC QuarkXpress version. However, if you only work in MAC QuarkXpress version, export as EPS to create a new EPS file. Then follow Illustrator instructions above. IMPORTANT - Make sure that the graphic boxes are saved with a background color (not transparent). Supply all supporting files and fonts.
PAGEMAKER

Submit only 1 card up (one design per page). Size for bleed if there is any. Submit all the fonts used and all the graphics that are not embedded.
For Mac users: Submit both screen fonts and printer fonts. For PC users: Submit all TTF and FON, PFB, PFM if used. Include complete copies of graphics in the publication. Make sure all colors are sent to us in CMYK format and not RGB or PMS. Save with all linked files. Make sure that none of the elements are in the NON Printing sending (unchecked). In Preferences … Target Resolution 360 dpi.

Note: Converting to Curves or Outlines as noted in the programs above eliminates the need to upload your font files. Most higher end programs have this ability to convert as noted above, although the terminology may differ slightly from program to program.

PDF FILES
PDF files are suitable provided that all images are originally saved as CMYK at 360 dpi and provided that the fonts used in the design of the card will be uploaded with the file attachment.
MAC FILES
Preferred format files are TIFF, EPS with fonts converted to outlines, JPG saved in compression 10, Photoshop PSD.
2.0 IF YOUR CARD DESIGN CONTAINS BLEED ELEMENTS
2.1 BUSINESS CARDS
If your card will contain a bleed, that is if any portion of the card will be printed right to the edge of the card, then your card should be increased in size by 1/8 in all around. Consequently, the card should be designed in 2.25 inch x 3.75 inch template size. Crop marks are not necessary if you will follow these procedures.

After your card will be printed, it will be trimmed (cut) to the standard business card size, namely 2 inches x 3.5 inches size. VERY IMPORTANT -- it is critical in the design of your card to leave an INSIDE margin for card text inside the trimmed size of the card.

However, your card without any bleed elements, should be prepared in the actual trimmed size, namely 2 in x 3.5 in.

2.2 SNAP CARDS

If your snap card will contain a bleed, that is if any portion of the card will be printed right to the edge of the card, then your card should be increased in size by 1/8 in all around. Consequently, the card should be designed in a 3.75 inch x 6.75 inch template size. When you will open a new file in your graphics file, size the page to this 3.75 inch x 6.75 inch template size.

After your snap card will be printed in this size, it will be trimmed (cut) to the standard snap card size, namely 3.5 inch x 6.5 inch size. VERY IMPORTANT -- it is critical in the design of your card to leave an inside text margin INSIDE the trimmed edge of the card (typically a text margin should be minimum 1/8 inch all around).

However, your card without any bleed elements, should be prepared in the actual trimmed size, namely 3.5 inch x 6.5 inch size.

2.3 POSTCARDS

If your postcard will contain a bleed, that is if any portion of the card will be printed right to the edge of the card, then your card should be increased in size by 1/8 in all around. Consequently, the card should be designed in 4.25 inch x 6.25 inch template size. Crop marks are not necessary if you will follow these procedures.

After your card will be printed, it will be trimmed (cut) to the standard post card size, namely 4 inches x 6 inches size. VERY IMPORTANT -- it is critical in the design of your card to leave an INSIDE margin for card text inside the trimmed size of the card.

However, your card without any bleed elements, should be prepared in the actual trimmed size, namely 4 in x 6 in.
